Equipment

  • Large Soup Pot
  • Cutting Board
  • Sharp knife
  • Wooden spoon
  • Ladle

Ingredients

  • 200 g Biltong finely chopped
  • 1 Large Onion chopped
  • 2 Garlic Cloves minced
  • 2 Carrots diced
  • 2 Stalks Celery diced
  • 1 Litre Beef Stock
  • 2 Medium Potatoes diced
  • 2 tbsp Cooking Oil
  • Salt and Pepper to taste

Instructions

  • In your large soup pot, heat the cooking oil over medium heat. Now, let's add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the pot. Stir it around, and cook until the onion is translucent and the garlic is fragrant. You'll love the smell wafting through your kitchen!
  • Next, let's introduce the diced carrots and celery to the pot. Give it a good stir and cook for about 5 minutes, or until the vegetables begin to soften.
  • Add the finely chopped biltong into the mix. We're just going to let it sizzle for a bit, stirring occasionally for about 2-3 minutes.
  • Time to make it soupy! Pour the beef stock into the pot. Let's also welcome the diced potatoes into the party. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Bring the soup to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 30 minutes. This gives time for all the flavours to really mingle and become best mates!
  • After simmering, check that the vegetables are tender and the flavours are to your liking. Adjust the seasoning if needed.
  • Ladle the soup into bowls, and there you have it! A hearty, comforting bowl of Biltong Soup that's sure to warm your belly and make your taste buds dance.
